She is a Bachelor of Science candidate at Bowie State University, where she studied Visual Communication Digital Media Arts with a concentration in Digital Media Arts. Vennie specializes in portraiture photography and photojournalism. She also incorporates digital and physical manipulations. Her process includes using a DSLR camera and adding alterations in Adobe Photoshop. As a visual storyteller, she enjoys amplifying the stories of African American culture and history involving women and education. In addition, she shares stories on social-economic activity within Baltimore City. Vennie’s recent work is Industrial Harbor (2021), where she pays homage to the Inner Harbor located in the heart of Downtown Baltimore. During her academic career at Bowie State, she served as Executive Historian on the Student Government Association Executive Board for the 2020-2021 academic year. The following summer, Briona interned for the National Geographic Society’s Storytelling Programs department. This opportunity elevated her abilities as a storyteller. In Fall 2021, the director of the National Geographic Society Photo Camps, Kirsten Elstner, invited her to participate in the NGS Photo Camp: Ocean Connections. Explorers Malaika Vaz and Jahawi Bertolli taught the class to students worldwide. Ocean Connections showcased included Vennie’s Industrial Harbor (2021). At the 2022 Storytellers Summit in January, the showcase screened internationally. After completing her degree, Vennie hopes to continue storytelling through her artistic lens.
